Research
What is the impact of visual self-expression on psychosocial adjustment to traumatic stress, disability, or illness experience? What are the neural correlates, active factors, or mechanisms of arts-based interventions that facilitate change? How can we make arts interventions more accessible? Keeping some of these questions in mind, I am currently working on projects investigating-
- Implementation and impact of art therapy intervention (on positive emotional experiences, emotion regulation, and distress) with burn survivors in acute care [PhD Dissertation]
- The neuroscience of art therapy intervention with PTSD and TBI (the neural correlates and mechanisms) [HALE lab]
- Role of specific art media, receptive and expressive aesthetic experience, technology, and tools to support accessibility of arts interventions and its relation to health outcomes [PhD Dissertation]
My research portfolio includes a collection of both mixed methods and qualitative research designs. In addition, I am particularly interested in data visualization in art therapy research. My work centers on providing stakeholders with tools and strategies to understand research and promote wellness-outcomes in healthcare and related disciplines.
